This loan bagpiper in the video was only one around the city. They play for the tourists as well as themselves. Love it or hate it, it does add a particular cultural tone to the city. Centuries ago, bagpipers were banned, because the British considered them and their music acts of aggression and rebellion. Perhaps that’s why it is still so popular today, because it was once banned.
